Canada PR Point System
The Canada PR point system helps skilled immigrants to become permanent residents depending on their ability to settle in the country and contribute to its economic growth. Through the Express Entry system, your application for Canada PR under any of the following programs is managed.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program.
- Canadian Experience Class.
To get into the Express Entry pool, you need to create a profile by providing information about your age, skills, education, work experience, language proficiency, etc., and meet the eligibility criteria. Once you are in the pool, you are ranked based on the points you score in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Where your skills meet the requirements for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, your will be evaluated on the six selection factors like the language skills, work experience, education, age, arranged employment in Canada and adaptability. To qualify under the Canada PR point system as a federal skilled worker, you are required to score a minimum of 67 points or more.

The following is the summary of points you can score against each factor.
Language Skills: You can score a maximum of 28 points if you can communicate efficiently in English and French. The points are allocated based on the skills to write, read, listen and speak. To qualify, you have to prove your language skills in the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English or Niveaux de competence linguistic canadiens (NCLC) for French. As for the first official language, you must acquire a minimum CLB 7 or NCLC 7 level in all the four language components and for the second official language, you must attain a minimum of CLB 5 or NCLC 5 in the four language aspects.
Your test scores must be entered in the Express Entry profile and they must show that you meet the eligibility requirement.
How to Calculate your Language Points?
First official language (Maximum 24 points)

Second official language (Maximum 4 points)
Under this criterion, you need to have at least CLB 5 in the four language skills to score 4 points.

Work Experience: The points earned for work experience depends on the number of years you have worked in a full-time paid job. It must be a minimum of 30 hours per week or an equal amount of part-time job undertaken. For the purpose, the 2016 edition of National Occupation Classification (NOC) is used to evaluate your skilled job application. Your past work experience must match the job code, which is called the NOC code to be eligible. In case your past work experience matches with the details and duties mentioned in the NOC, it will be counted for the points based on the experience.

Education: You can score a maximum of 25 points in this category. Nevertheless, you need to meet the following requirements:
Where you had your education in Canada, then you must possess a degree, certificate or diploma from a secondary (high school) or post-secondary school in Canada.
In case you had your education in a foreign country, then you must have:
- An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an authorized agency that confirms that your foreign education is similar to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary school.

Arranged Employment in Canada
Under this category, you can score a maximum of 10 points if you have a valid full-time job offer for a minimum period of one year from an employer in Canada. However, this offer must have been received before you applied for a Canada PR under the Federal Skilled Worker program. For the purpose, the job offer must be continuous for one year at least and listed in the NOC Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B.
To be a valid job offer, you need to meet any of the following requirements:
- You are assigned for a job on a temporary work permit issued on a positive LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) and your work permit is valid at the time of lodging the PR application. Here your employer must offer you a permanent job offer on your acceptance as a skilled worker.
- Your work is based on a job that is exempt from the LMIA requirement.
- You do not possess any work permit or have any plan to work in Canada or you are in a job with a different employer who has offered you permanent full-time employment or you receive a permanent job offer from an employer based on a positive LMIA and on being accepted as a skilled worker.
Adaptability: For this criterion, you earn a maximum of 10 points in case your spouse or common-law partner also immigrates with you to Canada. Nevertheless, the points are earned for adaptability.
