Working visa in Australia is for international workers who have the skills and wish to work in Australia. The following are the main type of working visa in Australia:

Skilled independent visa - is a permanent residency visa for those with qualifications and skills in demand. You do not need sponsorship but must pass a point test. This visa allows you to migrate to Australia if you have good English language skills and have skills and qualifications in an occupation in need in Australia. This visa uses a points test to select visa applicants with characteristics needed in the Australian labour market.
This visa is for you if you:

  • are under 49 years of age
  • have the skills and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)

The SOL is a list of skilled occupations that are in need in Australia. This visa allows you and any secondary applicants included in your visa application to live as permanent residents in Australia.  It is a working visa in Australia and allows you to work in Australia anywhere.

Skilled sponsored visa- This visa allows you to migrate to Australia if you have good English language skills and have skills and qualifications in an occupation in need in Australia. This visa uses a points test to select visa applicants with characteristics needed in the Australian labour market.

You must be sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or obtain nomination from a participating State or Territory government agency.
This visa is for you if you:

  • are under 49 years of age
  • have the skills and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)

The SOL is a list of skilled occupations that are in need in Australia.

This visa also requires that either:

  • you, your spouse or your interdependent partner have an eligible relative living in Australia who is willing and able to sponsor you
    or
  • You have a nomination from a participating State or Territory government agency.

Note: All State and Territory governments in Australia are participating in this visa scheme. This visa allows you and any secondary applicants included in your visa application to live as permanent residents in Australia. It is a working visa in Australia and under this visa; you have a moral obligation to work in Australia only in the sponsoring state.

Skilled regional sponsored visa- This visa is a three (3) year provisional visa for skilled workers who are unable to meet the criteria for a Skilled - Independent visa. You will have the opportunity to apply for permanent residency after you have lived for two (2) years and worked at least 12 months in a Specified Regional Area of Australia.
This visa requires you to be either:

  • nominated by a participating State or Territory government agency
    or
  • sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area of Australia

This visa uses a points test to select visa applicants with characteristics needed in the Australian labour market.

This visa is for you if you are:

  • outside Australia
    or
  • a New Zealand citizen who holds a Special Category visa (subclass 444)

You must:

  • be under 49 years of age
  • have good English language skills
  • have the skills and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)

The SOL is a list of skilled occupations that are in need in Australia.

This visa:

  • allows you to remain in Australia for up to three (3) years and requires you to live and work in Australia only in  a Specified Regional Area.
  • allows accompanying secondary applicants to work in Australia  and study in Australia , but only in a Specified Regional Area of Australia
  • provides a pathway to permanent residence

It is a working visa in Australia and this visa allows you to live and work in Australia or study in a Specified Regional Area in Australia for up to three (3) years.

457 Visa - is for skilled workers who have an offer of employment from an Australia employer. This visa program allow for employment of up to 4 years. The employer must have nominated skill required for the position. It is a working visa in Australia and allows you to live and work in Australia with the sponsored employer

The employer nomination scheme - enables Australian employer to sponsor highly skilled worker to live and work permanently in Australia. Successful applicants become permanent resident of Australia.

Working holiday visa gives an opportunity to young people aged between 18 to 30 years to enjoy an extended holiday in Australia and you are allowed to work.

Work Visa Occupational Trainee - The Occupational Trainee visa allows foreign nationals to complete structured and supervised workplace-based training programs or academic research in Australia on a temporary basis. The training must provide people with additional or enhanced skills in their present occupations, tertiary studies or fields of expertise.
